Wise Acre Farm is located in Arbuckle, California, north-west of Sacramento. We are a small farm specializing in growing gourds and creating artwork from gourds. We grow and sell dried hard-shell gourds for crafting, and have a beautiful line of gourd art created on the farm. We also grow a variety of vegetables and fruit for our Market Farm business.
Wise Acre Farm got its start in 1997 as a successful CSA business, delivering fresh produce and flowers weekly to customers in the local area. At the end of the 2002 growing season, we decided to cut back our vegetable production, increase our cut flower production and make gourds an integral part of our business. During the 2002/2003 growing season, we were still delivering farm-fresh products to local homes and businesses, but we found that there is just something magical about growing, harvesting and crafting gourds. Because of our growing love of gourds, Wise Acre Farm has turned its main focus to growing gourds and creating artwork from gourds, while maintaining a successful local Market Farm business.
At Wise Acre Farm, as with most farms, we have a great love for the land and a great love for our animal friends. A portion of the Wise Acre Farm acreage is given to livestock. We are also working with the local NRCS and RCD offices to integrate the use of native plantings around the property to encourage natural habitat restoration. We practice sustainable farming methods, and strongly believe in the importance of preserving and taking great care of the land.
We currently grow about two acres of hard-shell gourds and one acre of fresh produce and flowers each season, plus ten acres of almonds and many fruit trees. We have a small goat herd that helps keep the brush under control, four lovely llamas and a variety of poultry.
